Read Bert’s Story
I’ve rediscovered the simple but powerful joy of connection.
Why I chose to move to Peterborough Retirement
Bert Weiss’s decision to move to Peterborough Retirement was shaped by family support and a sense of familiarity. The spacious room beside the sunny porch immediately stood out, offering comfort and warmth. The community’s strong reputation—and the fact that his wife’s mother had once lived there—provided reassurance. Ultimately, family encouragement confirmed that added support would make daily life safer and easier.
A smooth and welcoming transition
Once the decision was made, the transition happened quickly. Bert’s family thoughtfully prepared and furnished his room, making the move feel smooth and manageable. While different from being at home, he has no regrets and feels confident it was the right choice.

My favourite part of life here
Bert treasures the people most of all—the friendships he has formed, the encouragement of team members like Cheryl, and the many engaging activities that bring joy and purpose to his days.
Activities I enjoy and staying connected
Evenings often include cards and games, which he eagerly looks forward to. Throughout his life, he has loved sports and music, including barefoot waterskiing well into later life. He sang for 50 years with the Trinity Gospel Choir and the barbershop group, The Aces of Harmony—experiences filled with harmony, friendship, and shared passion.
Advice for someone considering retirement living
Bert describes Peterborough Retirement as a good place to be, where staff are friendly, caring, and genuinely supportive. He would gladly recommend the community to others seeking care, friendship, and a place to feel at home.
A lifetime of stories to share
After beginning work in a factory, Bert purchased land on Anchor Bay at Pigeon Lake and envisioned transforming it into a trailer park. Through nearly three decades of dedication and hard work, that dream became a successful family business that continues to operate today—supported every step of the way by his loving and encouraging wife.

Who inspires me now
At this stage in life, Bert finds inspiration in the friendships that surround him each day.
